I am gearing up to start my last semester of college next week (FINALLY). This will also be my semester that I am required to write my Art History capstone assignment that I have to complete in order to get my degree. I have been racking my brain and sorting through old notes to see if I could find some inspiration. So far, I have come up with a few topics that interest me such as Gothic architecture, impressionism, the ideas of synchromisms and synasthesia (which I have written about in the past) and a new topic surrounding the ideas of simulation in art and life and general (photoshop/illustrator created works etc.)
I am hoping to continue to update about it as I continue with the process as the semester goes on!!
I do have a few notes about art "simulation" though. I have noticed the over abuse of photoshop in ads, as we all have, but I also have started to notice (well not started...this is a continuous notice) the disturbing trend of girls who feel the need to edit their photos to place them on Facebook. A little filter here and there is fine as is removing a blemish you don't like but what is disturbing is the desire to change their entire body. Extreme shifts in body size and shape are so interesting to me because I wonder that if these are placed on Facebook, where you make social connections with your friends, wouldn't they know that your photo has been greatly altered? However, I am sure many people make friends with people they have never met so I suppose it works in that case!
