Therefore, I have decided to create my own job as an art blogger. This, I know, will not make me much money (or, actually any money at all) but I figure it would keep me writing about and observing art in the critical way I was educated in!
I have dedicated this blog to one of my favorite artists, Edward Hopper. Those of you who don't know who he is, here is a little insert from Wikipedia (right, I realize that is not a legitimate research source but most of my articles I have about him are boxed away because as someone who has been a college student since Fall 2006, I have moved every year since then).
Anyway, he was an American realist painter and printmaker who lived from 1882-1967. He has some pretty awesome paintings regarding life in the cities, the juxtaposition of industry vs. rural landscapes and a little bit of a voyeuristic appeal to his subjects (refer to Nighthawks, 1942 - trust me you've seen it before but I'll give you some time to go look it up - AND go..........................).
The picture I have used on the background of this blog is Office at Night, a personal favorite of mine. Like this painting, most of his works have a high sense of contrast with light and color....I could go more into detail but I will spare you the jargon used by that of an Art Historian - big descriptive words used in rapid succession.
The purpose of my new blog is to make art much more interesting to "normal" people so that maybe you can find out ways to appreciate art as much as people like I do. Also, think about being able to go to a Museum for free on the weekend and actually being able to appreciate and enjoy what you are viewing instead of trashing your mind watching Jersey Shore reruns on a Saturday....your pick!
More to come later! Happy Thanksgiving!!
